Getting a cold drink from the garden hose on a hot summer’s day might strike a chord of nostalgia in some people’s minds. It used to be the norm and you may hear people claiming they used to drink from the garden hose and they turned out just fine. However, you shouldn’t drink water from your garden hose anymore. Below, we detail a few reasons why.

Regulations and Awareness

“We used to do it all the time!” Isn’t a good reason to keep doing things. Doctors used to smoke in their exam rooms and people used to drive without seat belts. It’s true that people used to drink from the garden hose all the time however water out of the garden hose was different when they were growing up.

The FDA regulates water to help keep the public healthy and water from the garden hose just doesn’t make the cut anymore.

Cleanliness is an Issue

First of all, there are plenty of critters  and bacteria that can make camp in your garden hose since it lives outside or in a garage or shed all the time. Waterborne bacterial infections can be easily transmitted through the water flow of your hose. Water from the hose may also contain chemicals that may not otherwise be present in tap water or bottled water. Your hose itself is made up of plastics and heavy metals that should never be ingested. Small pieces of debris from the hose are easily dislodged and could end up making you very sick over time. The pipes that carry water to your hoses aren’t necessarily up to code for drinking water and can also carry toxins and other dangerous elements.

Conclusion

It might be convenient on a hot day to take a sip from the hose but think twice before indulging in this nostalgic activity. Contact us today to get Silver Springs water delivered to your home so you have clean, fresh water at your fingertips all summer long!

It might seem to boost your weight loss is just about exercising and counting calories, but sometimes you can hit a plateau despite your best efforts.  Fortunately, there are small, relatively easy things you can do to boost your weight loss.  Adding the following strategies to your weight loss plan can help you to get back on track and shed those pesky pounds with seemingly little effort.

Take a Cinnamon Supplement

Supplementing with cinnamon is an effortless way to melt away fat.  In a 2006 study in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, people lost a significant amount of body fat after taking a cinnamon supplement for 12 weeks. A similar study in a 2017 edition of Lipids in Health and Disease found that when people supplemented with cinnamon for 16 weeks, their body mass indexes significantly decreased when compared to people who took a placebo.  You can buy a bottle of cinnamon pills, or sprinkle cinnamon in your coffee or on a piece of toast to add this spice to your diet.

Drink Water Before Meals

If you fill up with a glass of water before eating a meal, you probably won’t feel as hungry and will be less likely to overeat. The research supports this notion.  In a 2010 study in the journal Obesity, subjects who consumed about 16 ounces of water before every meal lost approximately four pounds more than those who did not drink water before meals did during a 12-week diet. Most standard bottled waters are about 16 ounces.  Drink a bottle before sitting down for a meal, and you might notice yourself quickly shedding excess weight.

Eat the Right Foods

Often when dieting, people worry about all the things they can’t eat, but it might be beneficial to focus instead on the things you can, such as certain foods linked to weight loss. Most people gain weight over time as they age, but a 2011 study in the New England Journal of Medicine found that eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and yogurt was linked to weight loss over a four-year period.   Be sure to fill your shopping cart with these foods at the grocery store.

Stocking up on slimming foods can help you to shrink your waistline.  Combine this with other simple strategies, such as drinking water and taking a cinnamon supplement, and it will be easier to meet your weight-loss goals.

You’ve been experiencing frequent heartburn that just won’t go away, and a trip to the doctor’s office has confirmed that you have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). While relieved to finally have a diagnosis, you may also be at a loss for clues to what comes next.

GERD is caused by stomach acid backing up into your esophagus, a condition known as “acid reflux.” This acid back-up is at the root of all your discomfort, which may show up not only as heartburn but also as a burning sensation in your throat, discomfort in your chest, and a sour stomach.

Your doctor probably will prescribe a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) or an H2 antagonist, both of which are usually effective in reducing the amount of acid your stomach produces. Of course, while a prescription regimen may ease some patients’ symptoms, it may not eliminate them completely. If this is the case, you may consider also making some simple lifestyle changes that can make the difference between feeling sick and miserable or being healthy and happy.

As with many gastrointestinal disorders, one the first challenges in living with GERD is learning to adjust your diet. Foods that are highly acidic, such as tomatoes and citrus fruits, are to be avoided, as are onions, peppers, fried foods, and foods high in fat. Other foods that you should avoid or eat sparingly aren’t quite as obvious, such as dairy products, caffeinated beverages, chocolate, and alcohol. In addition to asking your doctor about how to regulate your diet, you also can find a wealth of information, both in print and online, regarding what foods are safer bets, as well as great recipes created especially for those with GERD.

While not all doctors endorse it, many GERD sufferers claim to have had considerable success combating their symptoms by taking a tablespoon of raw apple cider vinegar daily. Why this natural remedy might offer relief is not known for sure, but one theory is that the vinegar’s alkaline properties act to reduce the stomach acid. At any rate, there is little to risk and everything to gain, since a tablespoon of vinegar once a day is not likely to hurt anyone. If you have a hard time swallowing this remedy, many of its proponents suggest adding some honey to combat the bitter taste or mixing it into a glass of water.

Almost as important as what you eat is how you eat. You should adjust your eating habits so that you are eating smaller portions at each sitting, even if it means eating more frequently. It’s also a good idea to eat your last meal of the day at least three hours prior to going to sleep.

Many who are plagued by GERD struggle to get a full night’s rest due to discomfort which can keep even the most exhausted individual awake, and in turn, sap their energy for the next day. Also, to keep stomach acid from advancing up the esophagus, you might consider investing in a wedge pillow or elevating the head of your bed so that you are not lying completely flat when sleeping. Lastly, if you wear nightclothes to bed, make sure they are loose fitting, as tight clothes can aggravate reflux.

In addition to adjusting eating and sleeping habits, people who suffer from GERD should try to maintain a healthy weight, avoid smoking, and drink alcohol only in moderation (if at all). Excess weight, smoking, and drinking alcohol can all intensify the symptoms of GERD.

While there is no quick fix for GERD, with proper medication, a focused diet, Silver Springs Water – high pH (alkaline) water and lifestyle changes, it is possible to manage the condition. People suffering from the effects of GERD should talk to their physician to best decide what nutrition and lifestyle changes can be implemented to help alleviate the discomfort of living with GERD.

Stomach pain is extremely uncomfortable, making it something you’ll want to cure as quickly as possible when it arises. While there is a wide range of medications and products available for the treatment of stomach discomfort, there are also many natural solutions you can use, such as teas. Here are three simple teas you can use to stop stomach pain its tracks.

Hot Water Teas

1) Hot Lemon Tea

Hydrochloric acid is responsible for digestion. When you drink lemon tea, hydrochloric acid levels in your body increase, which improves digestion and helps cure stomach pain. Simply squeeze fresh lemon juice into hot water and drink it, and your discomfort will soon begin to wane.

2) Ginger Tea

Stomachaches can be eased by the relaxation of the muscles surrounding your intestines. Ginger tea helps with this, as it contains shogaols and gingerols, which are chemicals that act as natural muscle relaxers. If you’re experiencing feelings of nausea, ginger can also help with that. If the flavor of ginger is standing in the way of you drinking ginger tea, feel free to add a natural sweetener such as honey.

3) Peppermint Tea

As with ginger, peppermint tea also aids in the relaxation of the muscles of your digestive system. This allows it to cure stomach pain caused by indigestion, as well as the buildup of uncomfortable excess gas. Fresh peppermint leaves, which are easy to find in local markets anywhere, work best when you steep them in hot water for ten or more minutes before enjoying your tea.

The next time you’re experiencing stomach pain or digestion issues, try any of these healthy, natural teas. These teas can all be prepared in minutes and help resolve your stomach pain quickly, all without a trip to the pharmacy or doctor.

In our modern society, we are bombarded daily by chemical pollution. Compounds foreign to our body’s normal biochemistry produce symptoms of chemical toxicity, most notably a breakdown in the function of our immune system and damage to the nervous system. It can take years of exposure before toxins build up and symptoms become apparent. Natural Detoxification could be an answer to turn things around.

One obvious solution is to prevent your body from becoming polluted any more than necessary. We can avoid eating foods filled with contaminants, consider natural therapies in place of modern medications, refuse unnecessary vaccines, give up smoking and overindulgence in alcohol, and buy products for our home and families that are environmentally safe, but we are still constantly exposed to enviromental toxins over which we have no control.

Detoxification of body tissues has become big business. Health food stores and alternative therapies offer many choices for removing toxins from the body. Your body doesn’t need special herbal diets, patches, supplements, ozone generators, colonic cleansing, or other such methods to detoxify and repair itself, although the manufacturers and marketers of these products would sure like to convince you of that!

The human body is fearfully and wonderfully made, with the innate capacity to cleanse and heal itself. Instead of spending hard-earned dollars on questionable supplements and detoxification therapies that promise quick results, make a few simple lifestyle changes that will allow your body’s natural detoxification system to do the job it was created for. Most of these changes are the same ones you would follow to improve your overall good health anyway!

Hydrate Your Body

Drinking plenty of water is the most important step in any detoxification effort. Drink pure, San Diego filtered water to avoid the contaminants found in most tap water. Adequate water intake dilutes toxins in our body tissues and helps our kidneys work most efficiently to excrete toxins broken down by the liver. Good hydration allows us to sweat more when we exercise, and release toxins through the sweat glands in our skin. Silver Springs Water delivers the best filtered water in San Diego directly to your door or office.

Work Up a Sweat

Exercise increases blood flow and encourages lymph circulation, which plays an important rolein our i mmune system and the body’s ability to clean itself of waste products. The lymph system has no pump, and relies on our skeletal muscles to push lymph cells through the body tissues. Lymph cells travel in one direction through the body, and when they unable to circulate, toxins are allowed to build up. Adequate exercise increases our overall good health and benefits our metabolism, keeping our immune system strong and able to fight off harmful microbes.

Breathe Deeply

Deep breathing exercises can aid in detoxification of our bodies, as well as in relaxation. The diaphram is the structure which supports the heart and lungs, separating them from all other internal organs. In deep abdominal breathing, the diaphragm moves upward and downward, massaging the organs above and below it, increasing blood flow, allowing our lungs to expel noxious gasses more efficiently, and pumping lymph through our system through the muscular movements associated with breathing.

Take Care of Your Skin

Take a sauna regularly to increase how often and how much you sweat. The heat of a sauna opens the pores in your skin, allowing for deep cleansing, and produces copious sweat which washes toxins out of the body. Dry skin brushing increases the flow of lymph through cell membranes and removes dead skin, allowing pores to remain open. Use a natural bristle brush or loofah to brush your dry, bare skin, starting at the ends of your limbs and brushing lightly toward the heart in long, smooth strokes. Don’t scrub or rub in circles. The most convenient time to do this may be before you shower, and you only need to brush for about a minute.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Most of us don’t get enough fiber in our diet. By consuming adequate amounts of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, you will stimulate your digestive system to rid itself of accumulated waste products and bacteria. You don’t need to “cleanse” your colon with enemas; it is designed to clean itself when provided with adequate water and fiber. Over the long term, the overuse of colon cleansing practices can disrupt the colon’s natural sodium and water balance, and contribute to problems such as malnutrition, anemia, and heart failure.

Consume food as close as possible to its natural state that has been grown or raised without the use of pesticides, herbicides and antibiotics. Avoid overprocessed food products that contain artificial colors, flavorings, preservatives, and other toxic chemical additives. Eat a variety lean meats, nuts, fruits, vegetables, whole grains legumes, and replace fats with healthy oils. Make fermented foods a regular part of your diet. Yogurt, natto, kefir, kimchi and other fermented foods and drinks contain beneficial microorganisms that help strengthen your inner ecosystem and encourage enzymatic reactions that aid in detoxification.

Resist the Urge To Fast For Health Reasons

The liver is the only organ that filters toxic chemicals and microorganisms (such as bacteria, parasites, fungi, and bacteria) from your bloodstream, and can become overtaxed with toxins. Some people chose to fast to rid their liver of toxins quickly, but by changing your diet to avoid processed and fatty foods, your liver will eventually rid itself of the excess toxin load without the uncomfortable symptoms produced by strict fasting. If you feel you must engage in a long-term fast for spiritual reasons, it should be done under a doctor’s supervision.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

Restrictive clothing can inhibit the circulation of lymph throughout the body, allowing toxins to accumulate. Wear clothes that fit comfortably, but not snugly. Wear cotton and other natural fabrics instead of synthetic. Natural fabrics will wick sweat away from your body, while synthetics will contain it and allow toxins to be reabsorbed. A healthy lifestyle encourages your body’s natural detoxification system to work as it should. You didn’t get toxic overnight, and it will take

A healthy lifestyle encourages your body’s natural detoxification system to work as it should. You didn’t get toxic overnight, and it will take time to rid your body of all the harmful substances it contains. Let it work at its own pace, and trust your body to heal itself.

The Detox Diet and Detoxification is becoming increasingly important in a world filled with various pollutants, dangerous chemicals, and other poisonous substances that not only affect the air we breathe, but regularly infiltrate our food and water supply.  Detox diets work on a cellular level to clear out years of toxic build-up and help the excretory system become efficient again.  Detoxifying through diet positions the body for easier weight loss, enables the immune system to better recovery from sickness, and restores proper brain function, as well.

Detox Diet

Many factors such as stress, poor diet, and environmental factors can contribute to toxicity at a cellular level.  While there are many variations of detox diets, most emphasize eating foods that promote an alkaline environment for the optimization of health.

Do You Need Detoxification?

Over time, a myriad of environmental and dietary toxins can accumulate in the human body, wreaking havoc on the internal organs.  As toxins build up, a person may start to experience a noticeable lack of energy and general feelings of mental and physical sluggishness which, ultimately, have a negative effect on overall health.  Do you experience any of the following symptoms?

  • Lethargy
  • Trouble concentrating
  • More susceptible to catching colds or flu
  • Frequent congestion or stuffy nose
  • Bad breath much of the time
  • Excessive bloating or gas after meals
  • Frequent indigestion
  • Dark or puffy areas underneath the eyes

These symptoms, as well as others, could indicate that your body is being taxed by an excessive load of toxins.  By employing mindful eating and using food to detoxify your body, you can effectively clear out unwanted obstacles so that your body and mind can function in a more optimal fashion.

Components of the Detox Diet

Although detox diets come in many forms and a number of health experts have introduced countless variations, they all have certain elements in common.  In basic terms, detox diets can last from three days to about a month and consist of consuming natural, raw foods such as fruits, vegetables, and nuts.  Most of the time beverages consist of lots of purified water and fresh fruit and vegetable juices.  Most detox diets call for abstaining from processed food, meat, dairy, sugar, grains and caffeine since these foods increase undesirable acid production.

The Importance of Alkalinity vs. Acidity

The pH of a person’s body is an important factor in living a healthy life.  Human blood is slightly alkaline, maintaining a pH level of between 7.35 – 7.45. Disease results when the blood falls too far outside these parameters. In order to stay safely within this range, your diet should consist of fresh foods that contain live enzymes which promote alkalinity.  How you eat, however, is not the only thing that contributes to excessive acidity.  Emotional stress, certain medications, and a build-up of toxins within the cells also contribute to an acidic environment.  This is why detoxification is advised by many professionals.

Before attempting any detoxifying diet, it is wise to evaluate your particular situation with a medical professional.

Despite what some of the more excitable advertisements may claim, there’s no miracle cream that can turn back the clock and keep your skin looking eternally youthful. However, that’s not to say that you have to accept ever-increasing numbers of wrinkles and lines as the years pass. Taking good care of your skin and using a few techniques to slow down the effects of aging will let your natural beauty shine through, whatever your age.

Keep Hydrated with Water Delivery

The body’s production of natural oils slows down with age, which leads to dryer skin that’s more prone to lines and wrinkles. While a good moisturizer will help reduce the effects, prevention is better than cure, and so make sure that you stay well hydrated at all times. Drink plenty of pure water, but don’t forget that fruits, vegetables, and many other foodstuffs can play a role in hydration too. Avoid drinking too much coffee or alcohol, and maybe adopt the European habit of always taking a small glass of water alongside your coffee or wine to stave off dryness. Silver Springs Water can provide water delivery to your door or office to ensure that you stay hydrated and healthy.

Be Careful of Ultraviolet

While a suntan can make you look healthy and vibrant, the ultraviolet light which leads to tanning will have damaging long-term effects if your skin is overexposed. This can lead to brown, leathery spots forming, and will also damage collagen, the substance responsible for skin toning and suppleness. Get into the habit of wearing sunscreen even when not in direct sunlight, as the UV rays which do the damage will easily pass through clouds, and don’t be tempted to maintain a year-round tan using salon tanning facilities.

Keep Hydrated

The body’s production of natural oils slows down with age, which leads to dryer skin that’s more prone to lines and wrinkles. While a good moisturizer will help reduce the effects, prevention is better than cure, and so make sure that you stay well hydrated at all times. Drink plenty of pure water, but don’t forget that fruits, vegetables, and many other foodstuffs can play a role in hydration too. Avoid drinking too much coffee or alcohol, and maybe adopt the European habit of always taking a small glass of water alongside your coffee or wine to stave off dryness.

Exfoliate Regularly

Drier skin is an unavoidable side effect of the passing years, so it’s essential to keep on top of exfoliation routine to remove flakes and dead skin cells. Using a natural, fragrance-free exfoliant oil will help keep your skin looking fresh, and will also reduce the chances of spots, rashes, and even fungal infections.

Go Easy On Make-Up

A daily application of cosmetics is tiring for your skin, as it tends to trap grease and impurities in your pores, stopping them from ‘breathing’. Even worse, the removal process can strip your skin of oils very easily, especially if you use harsher chemical removers. Try to limit the amount of make-up you wear, keep it to products designed for sensitive skin, use gentle hypoallergenic removers, and always apply moisturizer to your skin afterward.

Use Natural Skincare Products

Many people prefer to avoid chemicals in skincare products, but this is even more important as you age – your skin is less resilient, and allergic reactions to irritants are more common. Wherever possible, stick to natural oils, fragrance-free cosmetics, and products which are specifically formulated to be kind to your skin.

Prepare Your Face for Sleep

It’s easy for your skin to dry out while you sleep, especially in winter months when heating systems are turned high. Adopting a consistent bedtime routine will keep this to a minimum: gently wash your face, either without soap or using an extremely mild formulation, and then apply moisturizer liberally to lock in your natural oils overnight.

Don’t Obsess Over Your Weight

You may think that being thinner will always make you look younger, but this isn’t necessarily the case. There’s a balance to be struck – being overweight isn’t ideal for overall health, but if you’re a little plump then your skin will tend to look younger and firmer. In contrast, being overly thin can emphasize any wrinkles, lines, and sags you have. In terms of your skin, being healthy and happy is more important than the numbers on the scales.

Look After Your General Health

Lastly, your skin can be one of the first parts of your body to show the signs of poor general health, and this becomes even more the case as the years pass. Give your skin a healthy foundation by eating well with plenty of vitamins, while cutting down on fats, refined sugars, and artificial ingredients. If you smoke, consider stopping or at least cutting down, and ensure you get a good night’s sleep whenever you can.

It’s no surprise that years of exposure to the elements can leave your skin looking more lined and less supple as you age, but that’s no reason to accept wrinkles without putting up a defense. Following these tips will give your skin a healthy foundation to help it fight off the damage the passing years can cause.

Over 60% of Americans make New Year’s resolutions every year. Whether we want to eat less sugar, lose weight, exercise or read instead of watching television, few of us find ourselves in the 8% of people that actually succeed. Life gets in the way. Kids get sick, the spouse has to work late, and the latest episode of The Walking Dead is nothing without ice cream.

It hurts to break promises, even if the promises that we make are only to the person in the mirror. Everybody wonders if there are easy resolutions that require little work and can yield improvements from day-to-day.  Check out these five resolutions – and don’t be surprised to find that you can actually keep them!

1. Build Health: Detox by drinking more water.

The essential element to life is water, and most people don’t drink enough. Forget expensive cleansing systems with extracts and organics. As long as you have a functioning liver and functioning kidneys, the flushing power of water is the best thing to maintain good skin, good organ function and good health. Doctors recommend eight eight-ounce glasses of fluid per day. Consider what you drink, and supplement it with water. Discomfort from extra water intake generally subsides within a few days.

2. Build wealth: Contribute to your 401(k)

If your company offers a 401(k) retirement plan, contribute! Women, especially, often feel unempowered financially compared to their male counterparts. Knowing that you have savings for tomorrow helps you think more clearly about today. How much should you invest? Many companies match your contributions dollar-for-dollar or fifty-cents-on-the-dollar up to a certain percentage of your income. Find out what your company offers, and make the most of it. It’s free money that you’re leaving on the table, and it can give you a generous tax break.

3. Look your best: Reach for that bottle of conditioner in the shower!

Just as your body needs hydration, so, too does your hair. Most people, however, don’t bother with the extra step of conditioning after every shampoo. As a result, hair can look dull and coarse. Gentlemen, condition that beard! It’s not immune from the laws of hair. It’s no secret that various types of ethnic hair, too, need conditioning, but often with specialized conditioners and heat. Consult your stylist. No matter who you are, do not be the person in the room with hair that is breaking in half!

4. Build spiritual well-being: Practice Mindfulness and enjoy the rituals that you have already established.

The practice of mindfulness involves paying attention to your thoughts and feelings, without judging yourself or feeling like a bad person. Feel the present emotionally, physically and spiritually, and do not dwell on the past or the future. Often, the best time to do this is during the small rituals of life – over the first cup of coffee every morning, or when you let the dog out for the last time at night. You may be amazed at how much better you sleep at night or concentrate on your tasks at work.

5. Build self-esteem: Say what you mean, and find more ways to say “yes.”

We tend to avoid conflict, especially in the workplace, but being consistent between your thoughts and your words makes you honest, trustworthy, and more confident. Don’t be mean or aggressive. Practice saying “no” if you feel you’re being taken advantage of, but in a world that feels like everybody says “no,” also practice saying “yes.” Think before you speak. Do you remember the last person who told you “no?” How about the last person who said “yes?” Which do you want to be? If there’s no good reason to refuse, answering in the affirmative will make you helpful and surprisingly memorable, and open new doors. Get out there and bravely say “yes” in the new year!

These resolutions are worth writing down. Put them on your fridge. Remember them from time to time. Most importantly, don’t be afraid if you cannot do them every day – the best part about the following five is that you can pick them up where you left off if vacation or a double-shift interferes. Even the most stalwart resolutioners are not “on” 100% of the time. Don’t punish yourself – you’re already ahead of people who make no resolutions at all. Do these five things, and take control of 2017!
